Newspaper editors love a bit of rivalry

By Steve Dyson on March 10, 2008 3:18 PM |

Friendly rivalry keeps all editors on their toes.

Who got which story first? Which paper's sales trends are better? Whose employing the best columnist? etc. Fairly jovial stuff, you might think, but many a pint is owed by such victories.

And while the Express & Star (Wolverhampton-based) and the Birmingham Mail mainly serve different market places, their editor (Adrian Faber) and myself love to notch one up against eachother, if only in jest.

Imagine my delight, then, when Press Gazette (a trade newspaper) compared our new website against theirs... and we won!

Rest asured theres a growing legion of albion fans reading the evening mail these days. I've become so disilusioned with the express and dingle's anti-albion stance that ive long since converted to your paper for my albion news.

Steve there is no contest between the mail and e.s.
Their paper looks like a comic and is patronising. their sports coverage is just a re write of stories on the official websites of the clubs they cover and the layout looks like its been put together by a drunk.
I live in the Black Country and like many Baggies fans i dont touch a newspaper which openly backs Wolves as they do and puts a negative spin on pretty much every west brom story they write.
