My diet starts tomorrow
It's mid-life crisis day today, with that big 40 slapping me hard in the face this morning.
It's the age when you realise that something's got to happen with little things like diet, exercise and lifestyle.
But it hasn't gone well so far.
6.55am: stopped at Tesco en route to work to buy 25 fresh croissants for news conference, as it's nice to get the foot in the door on your birthday. Ate one as I drove in.
7.15am: News conference... and couldn't resist another croissant.
7.30am: Tried to resist a third croissant, and succeeded.
7.45am: Sent out for a birthday cake and champagne to mark my birthday at forward planning meeting at midday.
Midday: Starving, tucked into three healthy slices of cake, but shared the rest out. Got dizzy on champagne.
1pm: Felt bad when I realised the cake was the carbon copy of one the MD had bought in for me yesterday, which I'd also helped demolish. Diet not going well....
1.30pm: No proper food today, so treated myself to bag of fruit and nuts from slot machine.
And that's where we are. With parents, kids and wife getting a birthday feast ready tonight, and with another load of relatives joining me for a meal this weekend, I think the diet can start tomorrow.
PS: When does the mid-life crisis come to an end?
