On Line shopping
This week we are going to try on-line shopping
This is not something we are entirely happy about, we have never shopped this way before, and we are both very reluctant on giving our credit card details out over the net.
We have been told which sites are safe to use and what to look out for, but is this entirely data protection friendly???
We will just have to wait and see, it may be the start of things to come for us as a family.
A way of saving money, using it to pay our bills and more convenient and less stressful.
But will we miss our weekly shopping trip??

« My Concerns | FREE INTERNET USE »

Credit card frauds is a risk of shopping online, but can be a risk when shopping in person - a number of high profile cases in the last few years have been related to card detail thefts in shops and restaurants rather than on the internet.
I have been purchasing on-line for over 10 years and the security has definitely improved in that time to the point that I rarely worry about it any more. In all that time I have had only three incidents of unauthorised transactions on my accounts and the last two of those were picked up as fraudulent by my card provider who called me and queried them immediately. I was refunded in all three cases.
In all these cases the fraudulent transactions occurred after I had shopped with a supplier that I did not know. So now I just use credit cards with big name "visible" customers or I use a secure brokerage system such as Paypal since that provides a further layer of protection (the seller doesn't see your card details).
The good news is that both Visa and Mastercard now have additional online security schemes which provide another layer of protection and relies upon personal information which is not contained on your credit card and is never passed to the retailer.
