Every other Wednesday afternoon I hold a Yoga session at my house. A lovely lady called Pat comes to give us 2 hours of pure unadulterated relaxation and excerise. My poor husband John used to escape the seige of ladies by going off on his motorbike, but due to an unfortunate accident his pride and joy was written off. Now his only escape is to his study where he and our cat Chloe retreat behind closed doors. There are normally 5 of us, only 2 of us have cancer but we all benefit from yoga.
It was my friend Jean's 65th birthday so I bought a birthday cake and after a cup of tea and much merriment they all went home relaxed and energised. It is probably the only time in our hectic lives that we ever relax and have "a little me time". I am the world's worst for sitting still, the mind and spirit are so full of ideas and enthusiasm and sometimes the poor body trails behind. Yoga is such an important part of my life and it helped to heal my body when it was ravaged by chemo.
Two hourse later my leotard abandoned, I was all dressed up and a taxi came to take John and I to Jean's celebration dinner at Hogarth's restaurant. John and I have held many of our special parties there and they never fail to make it a wonderful evening. This was no exception. Six of us who have been friends for over 40 years shared a superb meal there and after much laughter and champagne we toasted the birthday girl.
Who would have believed that the next day I received a phone call from Thelma, to say that her husband Leno, who had been the life and soul of the party had been rushed to hospital after having a heart attack! Luckily Solihull Accident Unit were amazing and responded immediately and after an operation Leno is stable. It just shows that we never know what is going to happen next. Life is not a rehearsal and we do have to make the most of every day.
Help, this is getting addictive, I have a speech to write and my husband is dying to get his study back!
