IT'S interesting the lengths some films go to deliver product placement these days - either deliberately or subliminally.

Iron Man, which opens today, features a Burger King plug.

And Nim's Island, which opens tomorrow, features loads of visual references to Apple's iMAC G4 angle poise computer.

When this amazing machine was launched some six years ago, it was a real leap ahead - yet the expense of making it meant that it wasn't on sale for long and there have already been two generations of completely different iMACs since.

Many of the children watching the film won't even know that the angle poise really exists, never mind thinking about its status as a 21st century design icon.

Yet that little Apple logo will be delivering something in to their minds, just like you might now always think of a pint of Australian lager every time you see Jodie Foster's name on a film's credits.

More surprisingly, perhaps, iPods haven't been dominating film scripts in the way they do modern life.

Nor can I recall seeing the greatest modern invention of all on the silver screen - Sky+.

Yet how many people could live without its ability to effortlessly help even the most technically inept to create their own TV channel to ensure they never miss a favourite programme again?
