IF YOU plan to be among the first to see Michael Bay's new movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (12A) on the night of Thursday, June 18 don't expect to be able to sleep afterwards if you forget to take some ear plugs.
Co-starring Megan Fox, the film is 149 minutes long and as loud as hell.
Shia LaBeouf returns as Sam Witwicky - what a daft name! - who is caught in the war between the Autobots and the evil Decepticons.
With the ancient origins of the Transformers revealed thanks to a vision sent by the Allspark, Sam becomes a target for the baddies.
The Decepticons have returned to Earth under the command of the formidable Starscream.
Optimus Prime forms an alliance with international armies to help the Autobots to protect the humankind.

STAR TREK is going great guns at the IMAX at Birmingham's Millennium Point complex.
Since opening last Thursday it has posted 13 sell-out shows to date.
But how is it doing compared with Batman movie The Dark Knight which was released last summer?
Find out in the Birmingham Mail on Friday.
I think you'll be amazed...
SO here it is. December 31, 2008. The last day. The year's finished. No more movies.
Well, not till tomorrow!
To help you to remember just how many films there have been this year, here's a reasonably definitive list of the good, the bad and the very, very ugly.
There's something for everyone to enjoy and quite a few for everyone to avoid.
But, it was ever thus.
For every ten films released, only one will be outstanding and then the rest start to grade themselves quite naturally.

In the meantime, here's to many more movies in 2009!
GET ready, Bat fans, for one of the silver screen treats of 2009!
Customers were travelling to Millennium Point from as far afield as Devon, Cardiff and London when The Dark Knight opened at the enormous IMAX in late July.
And why not, given that our stupendous screen improved the whole movie by some 20 per cent.
Hot on the heels of this success, Birmingham's IMAX cinema is hoping to go one better in the New Year.
From 7.30pm on January 30 and 31 you'll be able to see Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins at the IMAX for the first time, with The Dark Knight set to follow at the rather late time of 22.15.
Me thinks the Sunday, February 1 screening will be the most popular, with Batman Begins at 4pm followed by The Dark Knight at 6.45pm.
Now that's what I call a Bat Fest!

CHRISTIAN Bale is set to appear as The Dark Knight for one more time at the IMAX, Millennium Point.
Christopher Nolan's film, the first blockbuster to have been shot partly using amazing IMAX cameras, has one more screening left - at 8pm on Saturday, November 29.
If you haven't seen it on a screen this big, don't miss your last chance. See earlier blogs for my comparisons between watching this film at IMAX and on normal cinema screens.
After that, much of the rest of the year is being taken over by Madagascar 2, but don't forget that Polar Express 3D is back every weekend at IMAX during the festive period.

Meanwhile, The Electric Cinema on Station Street is trying something new tomorrow night (Wednesday, November 26).
It's got a free screening of a new horror film called The Children (18) at 6.30pm, with tickets being given out on a first come, first served basis from 5.30pm.
There will also be a meet and greet with the stars HANNAH TOINTON (Hollyoaks), JEREMY SHEFFIELD (Holby City), RACHEL SHELLEY (L-Word), EVA BIRTHISTLE (Ken Loach's Ae Fond Kiss), and TOM SHANKLAND (WAZ).

BATMAN is back... less than a week after we all thought he'd left the building!
Christopher Nolan's piledriving thriller with Christian Bale in the lead role of The Dark Knight (12A) is making an unexpected comeback at Birmingham's giant IMAX cinema.
Two screenings on Saturday and Sunday last weekend were supposed to be the last outing for the film which stars Heath Ledger on breathtaking form as The Joker.
But the fact is that the first Hollywood thriller to have been shot using IMAX cameras on the big action sequences has already drawn nearly 40,000 visitors to the IMAX from all over the country.
Even now, at this late stage, it refuses to die.
Last weekend, some people even came to Birmingham to watch it from as far afield as Cardiff, while others in the past have travelled from Devon and London.
Sensibly, the IMAX management have changed their schedules for this weekend.
The Dark Knight will now play again at 8.30pm on Saturday, October 25 and at 6pm on Sunday, October 26.
With the clocks changing this weekend to make the nights even darker, what a great idea!
Enjoy.
PS. Do look back to my initial reactions to the film on July 21 and July 22 to see how I predicted the size of its impact.
SUCH IS the non-stop world of the movies, I've just had my first two-week holiday for a decade.
I can't wait to catch up with the third Mummy film and Space Chimps!
During my overseas break I was amused by the Daily Mail's orchestrated campaign to slam the BBFC's 12A certificate for the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight.
On Wednesday, August 6, for example, it had the headline 'Growing anger at Batman's 12A rating' beneath a strapline which read: 'Allison Pearson triggered the debate. Yesterday Iain Duncan Smith joined in. So why was the ultra-violent Batman given such a low rating'.
The next page, beneath the same strapline, had the headline 'Unaccountable, unashamed, the scandal of the faceless censors who do anything BUT censor' and the text included the now familiar line: 'Last week, Mail columnist Allison Pearson triggered the debate on this violent film, saying she was appalled that children could see it'.
But is this really where it all began....?
IT'S 23.26 and, almost 17 hours after I started work today, I'm just back from seeing new Batman film The Dark Knight.
But who cares. The great news is that it's sensational - and both (the late) Heath Ledger and Christian Bale are dynamite.
If you only see one film at the brilliant IMAX cinema at Millennium Point this year, make sure it's this one.
Two warnings, though. Some 4,000 IMAX tickets have already been sold so if you want to see it there this weekend after it opens on Thursday, get visiting www.imax.ac or telephone 0121 202 2222 ASAP.
The film has also been awarded a 12A certificate which is ludicrous.
With a running time of more than 150 minutes and lots of dark violence, it should be at least a 15 and, not so long ago, would have rated an 18. Do not take children. It would not be fair on them.
