BIRMINGHAM BASED writer Tony Lee is the man behind a new ongoing series based on the popular BBC TV series for American comics publisher IDW.
Tony was the writer of last year's Dr Who: The Forgotten maxi-series, also published by IDW, and has similarly contributed to Britain's Dr Who Magazine.
While intended as an ongoing series, it is believed various artists will be drawing individual story arcs.
Coventry based Al Davison is pencilled in as the series' debut artist, with the likes of Paul Grist scheduled to follow.
The writer also has a graphic novel collection of his Eagle Award-nominated Hope Falls series. Co-created with artist Dan Boultwood, and again to be published by Markosia, it is due in May and will feature an introduction by Ben Templesmith. If ordering through Diamond Distributors, your favourite comics emporium needs to ask for MAR094036: HOPE FALLS TP.

THIS YEAR'S Christmas Email cards have been arriving, so it's time to share their joy...
First up, from the wild wests of America, Wizard Fan Award Award-winner for Favourite Colour artist, the one and only Moose Baumann! Some of Moose's recent books have included Dead Ahead at Image and Ghostbusters for IDW.
Next up, again from over in the States, currently adapting Stephen King's The Stand... Wolverhampton's wanderer Michael Perkins and his dear lady.
Next up, simply one of the best cartoonists in the world - and you know that's true when such diverse publications as The Beano, The Radio Times and Fiesta have happily published his work - the great Hunt Emerson and good lady.
Finally, a writer for both 2000AD and The DFC, the ever-modest and increasingly good (and I'm actually being honest about the later!) Mr Tony Lee.
Merry Xmas one and all!
ONCE MORE a small presentation of exclusive email Christmas cards received last year from people within the comic book industry.
Above, a wonderful one by superstar artist Mike Golden and writer/editor/agent and very nice lady, Renee Witterstaetter.
Our second presentation above is a typically modest one from Dr Who comic book writer Tony Lee, whom we trust will also be making a swift return to the pages of The DFC!
Next up, international greetings from Asian publisher, Elfin.
Finally, two much appreciated email cards, but I unfortunately can't recall who from! Enjoy anyway!
Merry Christmas one and all!
"Frank Miller is bat s**t crazy"
That was the opening gambit from Tony Lee as he constructed a sophisticated case for Miller's Batman:Year One to be considered the greatest graphic novel of all time.
The audience eventually, and perhaps not surprisingly voted The Watchmen the World's Greatest Graphic Novel from a shortlist of 16. Akira came second.

They hold those conversations we all have about our favourite comics, books, TV shows and films - only with that added depth only a true obsessive can provide.

So, when Neil Elkes suggested writing a regular column for the new and improved Birmingham Mail site, I jumped at the chance. Partly because I think that the Birmingham Mail is a great local publication, having even worked for them here and there in the past, and partly because the comics scene in the Midlands has never been stronger with creators and comics collectives as far as the eye can see; but mainly because I am of course an opinionated blowhard who's in love with his own voice.
For those of you who have never heard of me before, hello. My name's Tony Lee and I am a freelance writer. In employment talk, that's shorthand for 'person who spends a lot of the year worrying that he has no money to spend, and the rest of it rolling around in vats of the stuff, worrying about how he's going to make it last.' I'm a writer / journalist with over twenty years experience and for the last five years I've been working in comics.
