Veal meat again

We eat chickens that are a few weeks old. We eat lambs when they are still furry bundles of cuteness

Yet many of us shrink away from eating veal, appalled by the very idea.

Why these double standards - especially when veal can be such a wonderful meat?

I oppose the cruel way veal calves are treated in some countries and would never buy such a product.

But I have my meat delivered by an organic farmer who rears his animals with care and respect.

Return of the meat eater

After a few months' vegetarianism, my teenage son has finally returned to meat-eating ways.

It started on Friday when he tucked into a big bowl of chilli con carne. Then on Saturday we shared a roasted a duck. On Sunday he he breakfasted on a bacon sandwich before dining on a steaming plate of beef stew.

It's certainly going to make shopping a cooking a lot easier, though we do always try to have a couple of veggie meals each week.
