Restaurant delay

By Paul Fulford on Jun 6, 08 05:26 PM

Flock wallpaper, the wall covering of choice for curry house owners back in the 1970s and 80s, is a whole less common these days.

So much so that its lack of availability has delayed the opening of Ruby Murray's, an Indian restaurant that was scheduled to open in Acocks Green last month but it still a couple of weeks away from compleition.

I bumped into its owner Tariq last night when I popped into his other restaurant, Deolali in Moseley, with my 20-year-old son for a pint or two and a meal.

To baldly go

Look out for a new curry house soon to open in Acocks Green under the name of Ruby Murray's (it's rhyming slang in case you didn't guess).

The restaurant is the latest venture of Tariq and Lynne, who run the stylish Deolali located in a space once occupied by an architectural antiques firm in Moseley.

This will be very different: flock wallpaper, a swirly carpet and big pictures of the Irish songstress Ruby Murray on the walls will give it a decidely retro feel.

All I need to do to fit in with its 1970s theme is grow the Rod Stewart haircut I once sported when I hung out with the likes of Silas O'Toole, Reg Pearce and Karen Wilson. Unlikely, I fear.
