It's a mystery . . . or is it?

By Colin Tattum on Jun 25, 09 08:10 PM

Developments re the 'mystery £90k-a-week man'.

He will be named tomorrow in the Birmingham Mail, and the background to Blues pursuit explained.

Then at least the guessing game can stop!

But have Blues pulled off a coup and got their target?

All will be revealed . . .

Dreaming, I'd love it to be Luis Garcia. He's exactly the type of exciting, all energy, take-on-the-man type winger that we need...the type we haven't had at Blues since Stan Lazaridis!

Though I wouldn't sniff at Eidur Gudjohnsen, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Patrick Vieira etc. Problem is, they'd probably sniff at us!

I've got closer to mastering the art of reading between the lines over too many years fretting about Birmingham City. Most of the nationals are throw away in my mind. Certain influential individuals at the club will have contacts with various papers, and certain papers get a 'heads up' on whats happening. In the past the national Mail seems to be close to what's going on at Blues. What I've found interesting over the last couple of weeks is that no national has picked up on this potential story.
I've become reliant on the Evening Mail because Colin is informed and well connected, and genuinely has the clubs best interests at heart. I'll look forward to establishing who the target is, but I know with almost certainty, this will be another nearly got gold story. A bit disappointed that Colin's blog tonight appears to be like a massive advertisment for tomorrows sales.
Many long suffering Blues don't deserve a night fingers crossed but being predicably let down.

I hope it's Flamini - and that the board have pulled it off.

I hate saying this but if we have pulled this signing off, whoever it is, wouldnt we already know. Skysports would have already found out and covered the deal???

I just think we are gunna be let down

Stella, I don't think any national press knows what is happening at Blues. The Mirror and the Daily Mail guess and basically don't really care. Tatts is the only one IMHO who is passionate about the club and what he does. Through all of this he's never been sensational and made it clear whoever this guy is it's unlikely to happen so why should he announce the name tonight and let other newspapers pass it off as their story tomorrow?

Evening all
Really, there was never anything to be 'let down' by. Blues have never leaked or said anything publicly about this, it was a long shot from the outset and not something they had pinned their hopes on. The suggestion that they were after such a big hitter came out by accident and, as I have posted before, I was told in confidence what they were trying to do and respected that confidence all these weeks. The goalposts have now moved and it is OK to reveal the player's name; read into that what you will. As we know it is not Flamini and nor is it Owen. By preparing to pay a 90k-a-week salary is has to be someone who is on that much already. And don't think Sky know everything that is going on! Now Blues are back in the Premier League the nationals will 'remember' the club again this season. I and we at the Birmingham Mail don't have to because we never forget.

How do we know its not Owen or Flamini, where is the proof

Hi. Sky are like the nationals - only interested in the "big 4" in other words they are a waste of space. local papers news is much diffy with guys like Tatts and Ross who really care. I bet the Daily mail dont know where brum is ! Owen is too short by the way, we need height in attack.
