Here's a question to get you thinking over the weekend:

The significance of this team, please?

Bob Catlin

Paul Holmes

John Frain

Dean Peer

Paul Mardon

Trevor Matthewson

Ian Rodgerson

Simon Sturridge (substituted, Louie Donowa 82 minutes)

John Gayle

Paul Peschisolido (substituted, Paul Fenwick 67 minutes)

Paul Tait

Judging by the names that looks like a '92-'93 under Terry Cooper. It's certainly not the Leyland Daf side.

I would guess that JMC is correct and it's probably the team that played in DS's first game way back in March '93.

Yes, first team of the Sullivan era. I think within a week we had signed George Parris, David Smith, Scott Hiley and Paul Moulden, and sold Paul Holmes to Everton. A week after that and Richard Dryden and Andy Saville arrived too

That is the team that played away at St James Park in a 2-2 draw in King Kev's first first season at St James' Park when they got promoted to the Prem and we stayed up (just). We'd just bought Bob Catlin "by accident"

The Scottish Player said:

Is it the team that played Newcastle? I'm sure Andy Savile scored in that game and he's not listed.

I think Bob Catlin was on loan from Notts County.

Re Bob Catlin, here's a bit more on him:

I would suggest there are no footballers in your list of players. its all very well tackling the ball but sometimes football is all about football football football. Ball manipulation, curio talents and facilitating goals at the right end while keeping them out at the other end. I would suggest
