My car tax road rage
FOR a Government that supposedly puts family first, Gordon Brown's party is doing a surprisingly good job at alienating every ordinary hard working parent.
Sky high food prices and fuel costs out of control all inevitably eat into any working tax credit or allowances that Whitehall deigns to dish out once you've slogged through the red tape.
But today we hear of yet another tax. This time to clobber guess who?....Yes, the motorist again.
Nine million of us will face massive hikes in road tax under reforms to punish gas-guzzling vehicles, but closer inspection reveals major flaws in the stealth tax.
Almost every one of us - even people in the smallest, least polluting cars - will face increases in the annual duty, with some people having to find an extra £245.
The aim, to cut pollution, is entirely laudable, but once again the Government seems intent on punishment rather than incentive as a way of forcing through its revenue raising scheme.
Drivers will be forced to stick with old polluting cars rather than being encouraged to look for new, environmentally friendly ones, because of the legislation.
Once again, those who can least afford - parents who depend on their domestic taxis to get the children from A to B - will be hardest hit.
Cars up to seven years old will be affected - and it's usually families struggling to make ends meet who drive them!
Still, Gordon will be alright...it's only a three minute stroll from Downing Street to Parliament.

Car Tax Prices is based on Gas Emissions: However, the answer is not higher car tax . It is time to ensure that car manufacturers are cleaner and greener. Brussels should lead the charge and the European Environment Commissioner should announce new measures that would make car manufacturers produce more efficient cars. All European and UK cars, must reduce emissions. It is a simple and attainable that would have an immediate impact on reducing Europe's spiralling greenhouse gas emissions. Anything else just illustrates how the government wants to tax us at the expense of the planet.
