Cricket leaves me stumped

I DROVE hell for leather deep into rural Warwickshire to watch Nick skipper his school cricket team on Wednesday night...and I might as well not have bothered.

That might sound a little uncharitable to the next Freddie Flintoff, but let me explain.

After watching him take a nice caught and bowled, it was his turn to bat - blink and I'd have missed it.

First ball was a scorcher from a Northants Under 14 paceman, the second screamer sent his off stump catapulting through the air.

"That's the trouble with cricket Nick, " I explained gently..."you only get one chance and that's your afternoon over - best stick to footie eh?".

Unconvinced, and after leading the side to victory, he played for his club side the following night.

I couldn't make it so he duly obliged with a 47 not out and a near faultless wicket keeping display.

Thanks a bundle!
