Petrol prices will kill family life

By Bad Dad on May 22, 08 05:47 PM

AROUND two or three months ago I defiantly proclaimed in the office that "I'll never pay more than a quid for a litre of diesel".

Now, just 12 short weeks later, I'm thinking back fondly to the days when I could fill up for single figures.

I've started driving slowly, have told the lads to get on their bikes and have even taken the mountain of footballs out of the boot to cut down on drag.

But what exactly is Gordon Brown doing to help parents like me? Nothing it would seem.

We hear the 'smiling one' is looking at ways of reducing the tax burden on petrol, but when?

And what powers will he exert over the kind of greedy garages and suppliers to make them take the blindest bit of notice.

The two I pass on my way to work each day are having a price war to see how high they can go - in the last eight days alone these greedy outlets have pumped up the price of a litre by 5p.

This week the Birmingham Mail revealed how thousands of honest, hard working families in the city are facing the breadline because of rising fuel and food prices.

Meanwhile the PM is chauffeured from pillar to post semingly blissfully untouched by the turmoil facing parents the length and breadth of Britain.

Soon they will have to abandon the school run. Maybe it's all part of the Government's master plan but it will come at a cost to countless families torn apart by the stress of coping.
