Blues fans win either way
I'VE spent the last couple of days on a visit up north to see my uncle, who is bravely battling cancer.
We timed it to coincide with a visit of the family's traditional football team Brentford, who were playing Stockport close to his home.
He used to watch the Bees as a lad but now has a pal who has connections at Stockport and arranged for my uncle, aunt, cousin, his little lad and me to enjoy a pre-match meal and watch the game as guests of County.
And for any Blues fan terrified of leaving the Premiership, fear not - football outside the top flight is proper football and it's alive and well thank you very much.
As we sat down for our meal County's chairman came over to say hello and wish us a nice afternoon, closely followed by the Brentford chairman Greg Dyke, former boss of the BBC.
Neither of them needed to but both wanted to and did so gladly, and it's that personal touch that sets football in the Coca Cola League apart from the cycnical money-grabbing avarice of the Premiership.
My cousin's 10-year-old son turned to me at the end of a typical end of season encounter punctutated by thrilling mistakes and honest endeavour and said: "That was brilliant".
Little Toby went on: "When we go to Liverpool they never make a mistake and never pass unless they're sure it will get to the player - here they take a few more risks."
As a result it's far more exciting.
So whatever happens next week you Blues fans, just remember there is life outside the Prem - and plenty of it.

That's a touching and reassuring story, BD. But it still doesn't stop the hurt that comes from knowing Blues' place in the Prem might be taken by a pub side like Stoke...
