Why you cocky little..........
IS IT me or do teenage lads develop a swagger when they hit 14.
If anyone were to look at Nick's gait and manner around the house they'd think it was he and not me who paid the mortgage.
When his mates are round he sees it as his main duty in life to belittle his parents, deride us as dull and boring and generally seek to stretch any boundaries to the limit.
Last night as he gleefully greeted the onset of the teachers' strike, he had a pal round and wandered down at 9pm to announce "Me and ***** are just popping out for a bit".
Bear in mind that it's pitch black outside and I'm responsible for Nick's mate, so my response of "yeah right" didn't quite hit the right note.
"Oh you are soooo boring," he moaned in a scene that could have come straight from Kevin, of Harry Enfield fame.
The swagger turned to indignation that I could dare to go against his wishes.
Then came the crowing glory. "I'm leaving home at 16, I'll get a really good job and you won't see me again."
Good luck matey, but I don't really think the paper round - another 'project' on its last legs - will cover the rent on a flat.
How wonderful it must be to think that the world is waiting for you to arrive.........
