Spam...it's the future
Thought I was hearing things in the office today when the Mail's restaurant spy Paul Fulford admitted he was partial to the classic kids grub of fish finger sandwiches and tommy sauce.
The refined palate of the man more used to foie gras and quail's eggs conceding that he doesn't mind a bit of Bird's Eye and ketchup? Surely some mistake.
Realising his faux pas he quickly added "obviously the fish would have to be hand caught and sustainable an the bread made from Japanese panko breadcrumbs".
Thanks Mr F - you had me worried there for a minute.
But on a serious note, how many parents can resist tucking into their chldren's leftovers and why do they taste so damn good - even when the're stone cold?
I saw Sainsbury's are selling the school lunchtime staple @1980 of Spam Fritters, but what other gems have vanished off our menus these days...can anyone jog my memory?

I demand a retraction, Bad Dad. Hellman's mayo is the only conidement to have on fish finger sandwiches. Tomato sauce would simply be wrong, wrong, wrong.
Okay, but I still need to know what school dinner meals are still around today.
Oh and with what grub do you have brown and red sauce...what's the etiquette on that then Mr fancy Dad food man?
I did of course mean fancy Dan food man.
Brown sauce: bacon, fried eggs, sausages.Red sauce: chips, maybe (just maybe) chilli con carne.
Using these condiments in any other way should lead to a person being shunned and ridiculed by polite society.
Does anyone remember college pudding? - my mom used to make it but I can't remember what when in it apart from sulanas.
I think it's also called Cambridge pudding and contains breadcrumbs, suet, sugar, butter, nutmeg, dried fruit and sugar shaped into small balls which are fried. Really healthy!
Aren't you thinking of summer pudding which was a hit at school with lumpy custard?
Aren't you thinking of summer pudding which was a hit at school with lumpy custard?
Summer pudding is completely different - late summer berries etc inside white bread which is soaked with their juices.
