I feel good!

A TIDAL wave of green swept through the city today as the first Birmingham Mail/Macmillan Fun Run saw the young, old, athletic and not so athletic take to the streets for a fantastic cause.

I don't really consider myself a runner as such, but anyone who has never done one of these 5 or 10km 'races' should seriously consider giving it a go.

It's fun with a huge feelgood factor, but most importantly it is utterly life affirming and something that even makes getting up at 7.30am on a Sunday morning worthwhile.

Tens of thousands of pounds will have been raised for the army of people who make the lives of cancer sufferers bearable...bringing laughter and happiness at the most difficult time of all.

Highlights of the day for me were the lunatics who ran the whole way pushing a bed and seeing eight-year-old Daniel Dyson crossing the finishing line - about an hour ahead of his dad, the editor.

There may have been many more personal tales of joy, but I'm sure everyone who ran will be savouring that wonderful glow of having put something back.

It's a truly tremendous feeling and something anyone can do.

Roll on next year. and don't miss the pictures and report in tomorrow's Mail.
