Competitive dad...me?
I knew the time would come when my eldest thought he could take me on.
Last week at football training he marched up to me bold as brass at the end and challenged me to a 100 metre dash...in front of his team-mates.
Now I'm no competitive dad but I believe in making my lot work for their successes.
So there was absolutely no way, dodgy knee or not, that I was going to let him win...and sure enough I crossed the tape with about eight or nine metres to spare.
So imagine my surprise when, undaunted, he challenged me to an arm wrestle in front of his little bro and his mum on the kitchen table.
I even offered to take him on left handed - he's a left hander - but after several seconds of strange facial expressions, arm shaking and mock agony I slammed his hand down on the table.
But as time marches on I know he will get stronger and I weaker and the balance will tip.
Which is why my £50 bet that I'll beat him in a 10k race this time next year has got me a little worried.
I'll be at the Birmingham Mail's Fun Run for Macmillan on Sunday April 27 getting in some practice...make sure you join me.

You should be more worried about how you legs are going to match up in a pair of skimpy shorts . . .
Will we be getting pictures?
Surely not, Tara. This is a family website.
Yes of course, what was I thinking? Wouldn't want to scare little children.
I think Bad Dad's mugshot probably already scares quite enough people.
Bad Dad's ben quiet recently. I guess he's waxing his legs ahead of Sunday's fun run!!!

At least I'm not bottling out of running...unlike certain people I could mention, eh Moseleyblu.
