A few of my favourite things
My little Jess was off school today with a tummy bug and, sucker that I am, I always bring her a present home when she's not well.
But today was hectic in the newsroom and I forgot - but I'm so glad I did!
You see, I remembered a birthday present I'd bought her and ran to the secret hiding place to retrieve it before handing it over to her, her eyes shut and grin on her pale face.
She unwrapped it and we settled down to watch the get well present together - her beneath a special 'not very well quilt' and me with my arm around her shoulder.
The gift was nothing special - a DVD of The Sound of Music, a film which despite being made in the year of my birth (there, I'm showing my age) I admit to my shame I'd never watched.
But if ever you're feeling down I defy you not to feel good after sitting through this feelgood film to end all feelgood films, a masterpiece which will never be bettered.
I prepared the curry with a spring in my step, my little girl had colour back in her cheeks and the sometimes horrible world outside could go to hell...and now I don't feel so bad.
Are there any better movies than this for banishing the neverending winter blues? I don't think so.
