Go away Golloway

By Mat Kendrick on Jan 15, 11 01:04 AM

gollum1.jpg"I WANT him to go to a strong club with a strong manager who loves him and where he will be able to win things, not some half-a***d place that used to be famous and the manager is on a dodgy wicket."

I've been desperately trying to think of some clever, witty, subtle way of responding to outspoken Ian Holloway's latest outburst in Aston Villa's pursuit of Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

But I think it's time to fight fire with fire and advise Holloway to shut his stupid gob and start behaving with some dignity.

Why the new Phil Brown (circa 2010-11) thinks he is an authority on every subject just because half a year in the Premier League has given him the platform to spit his ridiculous sound-bites I don't know.

I've been biting my tongue since Villa's victory over Blackpool a few months back - but his pathetic comments are not the first time he's disrespected Gerard Houllier this season, let alone AVFC.

Rewind to that November night and back then Holloway had already completed his transformation from refreshingly candid media darling to a ridiculous caricature of himself.

If you can recall, it was the evening Holloway made wholesale changes to his team and, to their credit, Blackpool reserves came within a minute of clinching a point against the claret and blues.

Fair enough, it's impossible to take issue with anything that the Seasiders are doing on the football pitch at the moment.

But after the match, Holloway showed about as much self control as a (DELETED FOR LEGAL REASONS).

I remember sitting in Houllier's post match press conference when the Villa boss was asked a perfectly legitimate question by a journalist pal of mine about whether he expected Holloway to face charges from the FA for his team selection.

The hack wasn't suggesting Blackpool should be punished, indeed the general consensus in the room was that the Prem rules are ridiculous and managers should be able to field any permutation of players from their first team squads.

But, after Wolves and Mick McCarthy were fined in similar circumstances last season, it was a valid line of enquiry.

Gerard was just mulling over his answer when he was rudely interrupted by what at first listen sounded like Vicky Pollard.

It transpired that Holloway had been sitting at the back of the press conference room, but rather than showing the decorum expected of visiting managers, jumped to his feet and started answering Houllier's question for him.

But not even in a polite, courteous way. Instead Holloway waved his hands around at the reporter saying 'How dare you ask such a question....ra, ra, blah, blah, etc etc...I can do whatever I want...I'll quit.... yeah but, no but, yeah but.'

Yes, we know that Ian, that's what we were getting at, if you could close that massive mouth for just a minute and pay attention.

Now, perhaps I'm being over-protective of my working environment, but he was in OUR press room, for someone else's press conference and he was ranting and raving as if he owned the place before storming back out like erm, Vicky Pollard again. And that's after insulting TalkSport's former BRMB reporter Ian Danter among other interviewers.

How would he like it if we burst into his dugout and started shouting the odds at him?

"Manager on a dodgy wicket"?, Ian. That would be the same manager who has won the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and French titles compared to your Second Division runners-up triumph at QPR and play-off win with Blackpool. Oh, not forgetting last season's South West Challenge Cup success.

"Half-a***d place that used to be famous?" Last time I looked Villa had finished sixth in the Premier League three years running, made two Wembley appearances last season, been in the top flight for more than 20 years and, yes it's in the past, but can boast a European Cup, First Division titles and seven FA Cups among their considerable honours.

Blackpool might be above Villa now, but save all this nonsense until you have had more than six months in the big-time, Holloway.

Remember, this is a man who preached loyalty to Wayne Rooney a couple of years after walking out on Plymouth to join Leicester. Your memory's as short as your fuse.

As for the Charlie Adam bid. Villa have acted completely above board in going through the official channels. It wasn't leaked at this end, so news of their interest emerged either via an agent or from Bloomfield Road.

In fact, if Holloway could keep quiet for long enough to check with his chairman, he might just find that, far from being told not to bother bidding by the Blackpool board, Villa were actually encouraged to submit their formal offer.

"£3.5 million? Someone must be pulling my plonker". There's only one plonker with a questionable pull - that's you Ian Holloway.

well said sir. who the hell does he think he is?

1. Charlie Adams does not want to play for Villa
2. Blackpool don't need to sell him
3. He has a deal with Holloway to go to certain clubs when he does (and he will) leave Blackpool

Bearing this in mind, you have chose to ignore these facts, just like your manager/board. They have been pestering Blackpool and Holloway has lost his patience with Villa, hence the outburst. He has spirit and cares about his club, players and fans. So pick up your dummy and spit out the sour grapes

@ Dave Holloway - Can't find anything from the article to actually argue with then? Holloway seems happy to spout off his rubbish about whatever and whoever he likes even when it's nothing to do with him, so don't start trying to lecture anybody else. His behaviour at Villa Park earlier this season was pretty obnoxious, and I was talking to plenty of Blackpool fans after the game that night who were appalled with him. Even Blues fans today have been saying that his pop at Villa is ridiculous, so I think that's a pretty good indication that he's lost the plot! If anyone needs a dummy, it's either you, Ian Holloway, or probably both of you.

Anywho, back to people who matter- well said, Mat!
