On holiday

I'm on holiday this week but in the interests of trying to win a bottle of champagne, although I fear Rodger Clarke has got this one wooped - I have challenged myself to write this blog....

Saturday was sweet for any Villa fan.

And probably for Richard Fitzgerald the former Chief Executive. Spotted in the away end at Fulham, there he was again, almost an hour before kick-off, walking across the car park with his partner.

Anyone care to elighten me why a bloke who quote obviously resigned because of the emergence of Michael Cunnah, has taken such an interest in Villa matches since his departure?

Perhaps it is simply down to the close season in the hockey?!

Or maybe, he is trying to make a point?

I went to the match with Villa's web-site editor Geoff Coleman. We had a pre-match pint in the bowels of the Trinity Road Stand and for the first time in my life I was approached by a woman with two sachets of tomoto sauce in her hand. She made quite a point of explaining to us that they were better than the sauce out of a bottle... then she walked away.
I half expected Jeremy Beadle to appear with his camera crew. But he had died.
There were no cameras.
It was always going to be that sort of day, I suppose.
Anyway, am off to the lake District today to have a pint or six with my younger brother- a West Brom supporting chef who has lived in Brisbane for the last two years.
He travelled to Barnsley on Saturday and has barely spoken a word beyond gritted teeth since.

What was the real reason for Petrov and Mellberg not reappearing in the second half against Newcastle?

Assuming our Bill is busy offline chewing Kendal mint cake, I'll tell you... 'cos they played crap in thye first half. And what a great double substitution it was. Mellberg... was good when he was here; his hearts gone now, so leave him out. He can play for the reserves. Petrov? If you want it, mate, inject a bit more passion.
